Region: Barolo del Comune di La Morra, Piedmont, Italy, 2020
Varietal: 100% Nebbiolo
Producer: Trediberri has emerged as one of La Morra’s most quietly respected modern producers, balancing deep local roots with a thoughtful, forward-looking approach to Barolo. Founded by the father-and-son team of Federico and Nicola Oberto, the estate takes its name from the historic hamlet of Berri, long associated with high-quality Nebbiolo. While the winery’s holdings include prized MGA sites, the Barolo del Comune di La Morra serves as a clear introduction to Trediberri’s philosophy: wines that privilege transparency, elegance, and drinkability without sacrificing the structural seriousness that defines Barolo.
Vineyard & Winemaking: This bottling draws from multiple vineyard parcels within the commune of La Morra, showcasing the appellation’s hallmark marl-rich soils and gentle elevations that favor aromatic complexity over sheer power. The vineyards are farmed with an emphasis on sustainability and careful yield management, allowing Nebbiolo to ripen evenly while retaining acidity. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts, followed by extended maceration to extract structure and nuance. The wine is aged primarily in large-format oak botti, a deliberate choice that preserves site expression and tannin integrity without imparting overt wood influence.
Tasting Notes: The 2020 Barolo del Comune di La Morra offers a classically perfumed profile, opening with aromas of rose petal, wild strawberry, and dried herbs, layered with hints of orange peel and subtle spice. On the palate, it is refined and supple by Barolo standards, with finely grained tannins and bright acidity framing flavors of red cherry, cranberry, and savory earth. The finish is long and poised, emphasizing balance over extraction. Approachable in its youth with decanting, it pairs beautifully with braised meats, truffle-driven dishes, or aged cheeses, and will continue to evolve gracefully over the next decade.
