Region: Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy

Varietal: 100% Sangiovese

Tasting notes: Love the balance and finesse to this Brunello with very soft, creamy-textured tannins that frame the pretty palate, which shows chocolate, spice and cherry character. It’s full-bodied, yet polished and balanced. While delicious now this wine can age for another 5-10 years and will reward patience. Matured for a total of 4 years in cask and bottle before release.

Producer: Tenuta La Fuga is located in the historic village of Camigliano southwest of Montalcino. The proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea, the soils rich in fossils as a result of the lands that emerged in the Pliocene epoch, and the sediments of the now extinct volcano Mount Amiata, characterise the Sangiovese variety cultivated for the production of Brunello, also giving it softness, power, intensy and elegance. This estate, owned by Folonari since 2001, is the smallest of all the family estates with 9.8 hectares of vineyards and about 2 hectares of olive groves. The vineyards of Tenuta la Fuga are divided into three lots ranging from an average age of about 30 years up to the youngest of 10 years.

Vineyard and Winemaking: Montalcino’s vineyards are sheltered by Mount Amiata and kept dry by sea breezes from across the hills to the west. Densely planted vineyards produce low average yields, allowing wines with concentration, complexity and considerable aging potential. Fermentation took place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature. Maceration lasted about 15 days in steel vats before malolactic fermentation in oak barrels. The wine was aged in large Slavonian oak casks for three years and then one year in bottle before release.
