Region: Sardinia, Italy

Varietal: 100% Vermentino

Tasting Notes: Lively and sun-drenched, the 2023 “Limizzani” opens with aromas of white peach, lemon zest, and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it’s clean and saline-driven, with citrusy lift and a savory edge of crushed rock and bitter almond. A quintessential coastal white—zippy, elegant, and built for aperitivo hour or anything from the sea.

Producer: Surrau is a modern benchmark for Vermentino in Sardinia, particularly in the island’s only DOCG appellation, Vermentino di Gallura. Founded in the early 2000s by the Demuro family, the estate is located in the northeast corner of Sardinia, between the rugged hills of Gallura and the sparkling Costa Smeralda. With a deep respect for the island’s traditions and a sleek, contemporary aesthetic, Surrau has earned a reputation for crafting wines that showcase both the power and elegance of this native grape. The winery’s name comes from the surrounding Surrau Valley, an area rich in granite soils, maritime influence, and wild Mediterranean beauty.

Vineyard & Winemaking: The “Limizzani” bottling is sourced from estate vineyards planted on decomposed granite soils at elevations that benefit from diurnal shifts and steady sea breezes. These conditions are ideal for growing Vermentino with both ripeness and bright acidity. Farming is sustainable, and the winemaking approach is minimal-intervention: grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel to preserve varietal purity. No oak is used, keeping the wine crisp, fresh, and focused entirely on terroir expression.
