Region: Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma, California
Varietal: 67% Zinfandel, 19% Petite Sirah, 11% Carignane and 3% Alicante Bouschet
Tasting Notes: The 2022 vintage—a special 50th Anniversary edition—radiates California heritage with layered aromas of ripe black and red plums, boysenberry, anise, and herbal tobacco. The palate is full-bodied and finely structured, balancing plush dark fruit with savory spice, graphite, and energetic acidity. With powdery tannins and a resonant finish, it’s seductive now and built to evolve for decades.
Producer: Ridge’s first Lytton Springs vintage flowed in 1972, just three years after Ridge pioneered the concept of single-vineyard bottlings—a bold shift in California's wine scene. Located in Dry Creek Valley, Lytton Springs is known for its century-old field blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Carignane, and Alicante Bouschet. Ridge's organic stewardship, minimal intervention, and the vineyard’s remarkably stable expression of place have made it an enduring icon of Northern California winemaking.
Vineyard & Winemaking: Set on gravelly clay terraces with ocean-cooled breezes, Lytton Springs cultivates century-old vines that naturally limit yield and intensify character. Ridge maintains the original vine mosaic—including Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Carignane, and Alicante Bouschet—through meticulous vine-by-vine management. In 2022, the fruit was hand-harvested, fermented separately by variety with native yeasts, and aged exclusively in American oak barrels, producing a pure, transparent expression.
