Region: Tuscany, Italy
Varietal: 100% Sangiovese
Tasting Notes: Fresh and vivid, the 2022 Lohsa opens with notes of wild cherry, red plum, and Mediterranean herbs. The palate is medium-bodied and energetic, with smooth tannins and a subtle earthy finish that hints at the wine’s coastal roots. It’s a vibrant, food-friendly Sangiovese that delivers polished charm and regional character in equal measure.
Producer:Poliziano is one of Tuscany’s most respected estates, founded in 1961 by Dino Carletti and now run by his son, Federico. Though the winery’s roots are in Montepulciano—where it helped elevate Vino Nobile to international renown—Poliziano expanded into the Maremma coast with the creation of the Lohsa estate. This move reflects both the family’s forward-thinking vision and their deep commitment to Sangiovese. By establishing Lohsa in the heart of the Morellino di Scansano appellation, Poliziano brought its signature precision and elegance to a region known for its generous, sun-soaked reds.
Vineyard & Winemaking: The Lohsa estate is located in southern Tuscany, just inland from the Tyrrhenian Sea, where maritime breezes moderate the warm climate and promote even ripening. The soils here are predominantly clay and limestone, offering structure and minerality to the wines. The 2022 Morellino is made mostly from Sangiovese, with a small percentage of complementary varieties, and fermented in stainless steel to preserve purity and freshness. The aging regimen is brief and unobtrusive, allowing the expressive fruit and savory nuances of the coastal terroir to shine through.
