Region: Campania, Italy

Varietal: 100% Greco di Tufo

Producer: Down in Campania, Greco is basically the ancient soul of southern Italian white wine. The Alois family has been quietly reviving heritage grapes for decades, and Donna Paolina is their love letter to one of Italy’s oldest varietals. The wine takes its name from Paolina Bonaparte (yes, that Bonaparte), who famously spent time in the region and left behind a swirl of local legend and aristocratic glamour. That whole vibe — aristocratic but earthy, ancient but unmistakably alive — totally comes through in the glass.

Vineyard & Winemaking: The fruit comes from high-elevation volcanic soils, where Greco thrives on steep, mineral-rich slopes. Think ash, tuff, ancient seabeds… basically Mother Nature’s pantry of flavor boosters. Michele Alois works with low yields, a gentle press, and cool fermentation to keep all that precision locked in. No heavy oak, no tricks — just pure, terroir-driven Greco that shows off the sharp edges and soft curves the grape is known for.

Tasting Notes: This wine is like taking a salty Mediterranean breeze, a bite of ripe peach, and a hit of crushed limestone, and then somehow making it all feel classy. You get bright citrus oil, apricot, and almond blossom up front, followed by a savory, almost smoky mineral line that’s so Greco di Tufo. The texture? Silky but structured. The finish? Long enough to make you consider a second glass before you’ve even finished the first.
