Tasting Notes: Among the most sought after whites of the Midi, this unique blend from the historic Gassac estate has earned its place as a Grand Cru with great ageing potential. An aromatic nose with white peaches, apricots, fresh thyme, rosemary, stones, dried mango and mild spices. It’s medium-bodied with such good volume on the palate. Harmonious with velvety texture. Creamy but fresh. Absolutely delightful.
Producer: Mas de Daumas Gassac, often dubbed "the Grand Cru of the South," has been a trailblazer in the Languedoc region since the late 1970s. Founded by Aimé Guibert and guided by the esteemed Emile Peynaud, the estate has earned a global reputation for its exceptional wines, including the Gassac Blanc. While initially known for its red wine, Gassac Blanc has become a standout in its own right, reflecting the same dedication to quality and terroir. Produced from a unique blend of Viognier, Chardonnay, Petit Manseng, Chenin Blanc, and around 20 other grape varieties, the Gassac Blanc is renowned for its complexity, aging potential, and distinctive style that defies typical expectations for Languedoc whites.
Vineyard & Winemaking: Gassac Blanc is crafted from vineyards situated on ancient glacial soils in the Gassac Valley. These limestone-rich soils, coupled with a unique microclimate, offer ideal conditions for growing a wide range of grape varieties. The winemaking process emphasizes tradition and precision: after skin maceration at low temperatures, fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats to preserve the freshness and purity of the fruit. The wine is then filtered and aged, allowing it to develop layers of flavors. In its youth, Gassac Blanc displays vibrant fruit and floral notes, with a creamy texture and crisp acidity. Over time, the wine matures, revealing secondary aromas of honey, brioche, and dried fruits, offering a remarkable depth and complexity reminiscent of great white Burgundies.
