This beautiful Pinot Noir, from a cult-favorite winery among sommeliers, is produced in tiny quantities and featured at some of the best restaurants in the country.

Liquid Farm was founded in 2009 by old world wine enthusiasts Jeff Nelson and Nikki Pallesen, who preferred the lower alcohol, cooler climate and more terroir-driven characteristics of European wines to the riper, fruit-focused, higher alcohol levels found in many new world wines.  The name Liquid Farm comes from the goal of creating awareness about what happens above ground and below ground and tells the story of how both are inextricably linked to wine. "Wine is a product of the earth and the human touch. It is Liquid from Farming". On the label, the vintage is placed above the line, paying homage to that particular year's influence on the wine, while the AVA lies below, honoring the soil's unmistakable impact, which also ends up in the glass.

Made with to same exacting quality standards and philosophy as the Chardonnays, albeit in much smaller quantities, the SBC Pinot Noir was sourced from top-notch vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills: Spear, La Rinconada, Solomon Hills, Sanford & Benedict, and Radian. The wine was fermented with native yeast in open-top fermenters with about ten percent whole cluster before resting in neutral French barrique for 11 months.  Liquid Farm allows the wines to develop on their own with little intervention, which means minimal to no use of new oak and no additives or machines to manipulate the wines' inherent personality. Grapes are gently pressed and undergo a native yeast fermentation that is carried out for all new barrels and an increasing amount of neutral barrels. They primarily use neutral oak (used 4 to 5 times) to allow in small amounts of oxygen. All bottles are closed with a biodegradable DIAM cork. In an effort to lower its carbon footprint, the winery leaves every bottle "naked" (no capsule) or uses a soft, biodegradable wax similar to beeswax.

Fresh raspberry, cinnamon, clove, bing cherry on the nose. Savory acid and fresh red fruits on the palate. Very graceful and elegant but not lacking in complexity or concentration. Liquid farm achieves a lovely balance here between fruit and earth that should make every Pinot lover happy.
