Region: Nuits-Saint-Georges, Burgundy, France

Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir

Tasting Notes: The 2021 Nuits-Saint-Georges from Jean Chauvenet opens with a lifted bouquet of wild red berries, crushed violets, and subtle earth, layered over hints of baking spice and forest floor. On the palate, it’s sleek and vibrant, with a core of tart cherries and raspberries carried by fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. There’s a savory mineral edge that lingers through the finish, offering a glimpse of the wine’s aging potential. Classic and well-defined, this is a refined yet grounded expression of Nuits-Saint-Georges in a cool vintage.

Producer: Domaine Jean Chauvenet has long been a respected name in Nuits-Saint-Georges, part of the northern stretch of the Côte de Nuits where Pinot Noir finds some of its most muscular and age-worthy expressions. Established in the mid-20th century and now run by Jean's son-in-law Christophe Drag, the domaine continues to build on its reputation for crafting classically styled Burgundy rooted in precision and site transparency. With holdings across several lieux-dits in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the estate consistently delivers wines that reflect the character and complexity of this often underrated village.

Vineyard & Winemaking: The fruit for this cuvée is sourced from multiple parcels across Nuits-Saint-Georges, blending different soil types—from stony alluvial sites to heavier clay and limestone slopes—to achieve balance and nuance. Sustainable viticulture is practiced, and the domaine favors low yields for optimal concentration. In the cellar, vinification follows traditional Burgundian methods: fermentation in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts, followed by aging in French oak barrels (roughly one-third new) for 18 months. The result is a wine that marries structure with finesse, true to its appellation and vintage.
