As part of the fourth generation of winemakers in the Lafon family, Dominique and his wines are superstars not only in Burgundy but throughout the world.

Considered one of the finest winemakers in France, Dominique Lafon produces coveted white Burgundies from some of the greatest vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. Always hungry for new challenges, he purchased 14-hectares of vines in the Mâconnais in 1999. He strongly believes in the potential of the region, and feels that too few winemakers have attempted to realize that potential. He runs Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon in the very same spirit as his renowned Meursault property, and utilizes biodynamic viticulture, intense soil rejuvenation, tight yield control, and rigorous green harvesting to produce some of the most complex, vibrant and impressive wines the Mâconnais has ever seen.

From a unique parcel of clay and chalk turned toward the East. 25-year-old vines are cultivated following organic and biodynamic methods. The wine is aged only in “demi-muids” on the lees for nine to ten months before racking.

White wines from the Maconnais have historically been treated as little brothers to the big name villages of the Cote d’Or, but Comte Lafon is shaking up that narrative. These beautiful wines from the south are every bit as compelling as many Village and even Premier Cru level wines that you will find from more northerly communes like Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet. This Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine 2019 was fermented and aged for nearly one year in casks, showing great elegance and breed, with a firm citrus underpinning the ripe apple fruit. The texture on the palate is rich and dense, but adequately balanced by crisp acidity.
