Region: Chacras de Coria, Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina

Varietal: 100% Malbec

Tasting notes: This Malbec shows notes of blackberries, warm blueberry pancakes, and maraschino cherries while being intensely layered with baking spices of clove, cinnamon, sage, licorice, and cedar. Light hints of orange peel, eucalyptus, white powdered sugar and red velvet cake dance around the core. The wine finishes with integrated earth components of soil, dry crushed leaves, and an animal quality that screams being alive.

Producer: This micro winery is located in Chacras de Coria (Lujan), Mendoza, They farm from three hectares and go back three generations within the Furlotti family. The vineyards were planted in 1916, all to Malbec; from this they only produce one wine, which is made by famed winemaker Carmello Patti who focuses on balance and terroir. This is considered the smallest winery in Argentina and produces less than 500 cases per year, with only fifty cases for export to the US.

Vineyard and Winemaking: From the owner, Gabriella Furlotti - “In 1916, French winemakers planted this vineyard in Chacras de Coria. Today, we care for it in an artisanal way – horses plow the soil, pruners tie branches with natural materials. From the high Andes mountains, these vines are watered with the highest quality of water. We harvest enough grapes each season to make approximately 5,000 bottles of Malbec. These grapes are a living material that we respect, care for and anxiously watch grow. Here, we do it all by hand in the old-fashioned way, with love for nature, and respect for the environment and the traditions we’ve inherited.”
