Region: Chablis, France

Varietal: 100% Chardonnay

Tasting Notes: A vibrant and detailed Chablis, the 2023 “Vv46” opens with cool citrus, crushed oyster shell, and hints of white flowers. The palate is taut and mineral-laced, offering tension and length with just enough texture from the old vines to balance its bright, saline edge. Elegant and precise, it’s a classic expression of Chablisian terroir with uncommon depth.

Producer: Founded in the early 1970s, Domaine Jean-Marc Brocard has become one of the most respected names in Chablis, known for its commitment to purity, sustainability, and terroir expression. What began as a small, family-run project has grown into a benchmark estate under the guidance of Jean-Marc and his son Julien Brocard. Their transition to organic and biodynamic farming in many parcels reflects a belief that great wine is made in healthy, living vineyards. The “Vv46” cuvée is a special bottling that honors the domaine’s legacy—produced from vines planted in 1946, among the oldest in their holdings.

Vineyard & Winemaking: The fruit for “Vv46” comes from a single parcel in Préhy, just southwest of the town of Chablis, where Kimmeridgian limestone soils and fossilized marine sediments are hallmarks of the region’s singular minerality. These old vines are deeply rooted, yielding low quantities of concentrated, expressive fruit. Farming is organic, and the winemaking is precise: fermentation takes place with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks, with careful aging on fine lees to enhance texture and complexity without obscuring the purity of the Chardonnay or its limestone-driven clarity.
