Region: Côtes-du-Rhône, Rhône, France
Varietal:100% Cinsault
Producer: Domaine des Garriguettes traces its roots through four generations of winemaking in the village of Châteauneuf‑de‑Gadagne, a hillside spot just outside Avignon in southern Rhône. Under the stewardship of the young winemaker Sébastien Clément, the domaine has become a beacon of organic, biodynamic and terroir-driven viticulture. They honor ancestral traditions but interpret them through a modern lens — thoughtful, expressive wines made with minimal intervention. The name “Le Béret Bleu” is a salute to Sébastien’s grandfather, often depicted on the label wearing his signature blue beret — a tribute to humble roots, regional heritage, and the simple pleasure of shared bottles among friends.
Vineyard & Winemaking: Le Béret Bleu is made from 100% Cinsault sourced from vines planted on soils of rounded glacial pebbles (galets roulés) overlaying clay subsoil — soil types typical of the region around Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne. The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically, with attention to environmental health and vine resilience. The 2023 harvest was hand-picked; fermentation was carried out with indigenous yeasts in cement or concrete vats. About 90 % of the wine ages in concrete, 10 % in older demi-muid barrels, over roughly five to six months — a minimal-intervention regimen designed to preserve freshness, purity, and the varietal character of Cinsault.
Tasting Notes: The 2023 Le Béret Bleu pours a bright, translucent ruby. On the nose, it offers a vivid bouquet of wild strawberry, fresh raspberry, and a hint of wild herbs — with floral echoes of violet and a subtle saline-garrigue lift. On the palate it is light- to medium-bodied, lively and joyous: red-fruit flavors dance with a refreshing acidity, while soft, fine tannins give gentle structure. A twist of Mediterranean herb and a touch of clay-driven minerality linger through the clean, playful finish. It’s a wine built for conviviality — glou-glou in the best sense — perfect for casual meals, simple fare, or a chilled glass on a warm evening
