Region: Côtes de Provence, Provence, France
Varietal: Syrah, Grenache Noir, Cinsault, and Rolle
Producer: Nestled in the heart of Provence, Château de Berne is a storied estate whose roots stretch back centuries—vines have been grown on its Roman-era lands, making it a place steeped in winemaking tradition. In recent years under oenologist Alexis Cornu, Berne has fully leaned into its terroir-driven identity, embracing organic farming and meticulous plot selection. The “Ultimate Provence” line is among their premium rosés, built to reflect both prestige and Provence’s sunlit elegance—lite in color, rich in character, and designed to shine from spring through summer events and beyond.
Vineyard & Winemaking: The 2024 “Ultimate Provence” Rosé is crafted from a blend of Syrah, Grenache noir, Cinsault, and Rolle. Fruit comes from estate-vineyards planted about 45 years ago, on limestone‐rich soils that offer good drainage and minerality. Harvesting is done with attention to timing to retain freshness. After pressing, fermentation occurs at about 16-18°C, followed by reductive aging on lees (while stabilizing the wine) before final blending and bottling. These techniques help preserve aromatic intensity and a clean, floral-fruit profile without over-extraction or heaviness.
Tasting Notes: Delicately pale pink with copper highlights, the 2024 Ultimate Provence Rosé opens with aromas of raspberry, blood orange, fresh violet, and geranium, backed by a streak of lemon and exotic fruit. On the palate, it is crisp and lively — white pepper and saline minerality support a generous core of red fruit, layered with floral nuances. The finish is spicy and clean, with enough acid and depth to lift everyday meals and special moments alike. It drinks beautifully now and feels poised for short-term enjoyment through the coming seasons.
