Region: North Coast, California
Varietal: 50% Muscat Blanc, 25% Chardonnay, 25% Sauvignon Blanc
Tasting Notes: A radiant golden hue in the glass, with an aromatic profile that lives up to its name—bright orange zest, apricot glaze, and delicate florals on the nose. The palate is lively and textural, balancing zippy acidity with grainy tannins and a lingering, savory finish—equally at home with stinky French cheese or light summer fare. This is orange wine designed to be both intriguing and endlessly drinkable.
Producer: Breaking Bread’s Marmalade has quickly become their signature release—this 2024 vintage marks the fourth iteration of a wine that consistently sells out. Crafted by the ever-innovative Erik Miller, Marmalade champions a welcome-to-the-table style of orange wine—approachable, vibrant, and not weighed down by excessive phenolics. Its growing popularity speaks to its balance of curiosity and charm.
Vineyard & Winemaking: This year’s blend is composed of 50% Muscat Blanc, 25% Chardonnay, and 25% Sauvignon Blanc, predominantly estate-grown. Muscat and Sauvignon Blanc come from the sustainably farmed Timber Crest Vineyard on well-draining Cortina gravel and Yolo sandy loam soils, respectively, while Chardonnay is sourced from the certified organic Mizany Vineyard. Each varietal is macerated for a brief period—10 days for Chardonnay, 12 for Muscat, and 14 for Sauvignon Blanc—then fermented entirely in neutral French oak barrels, layering richness with purity without overshadowing the delicate architecture and freshness.
