Region: Alicante, Spain

Varietal: 85% Monastrell, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting Notes: Opaque purple. Explosive aromas of black and blue fruits are transformed into notes of liquorice, Indian spices and flower oils. Rich and long, it has a good acidity that lends elegance. In the mouth, sweet blueberries and redcurrants mark the palate with persistence in a spicy, concentrated finish.

Producer: For more than sixteen years, Bodegas Volver has been producing wines that showcase diversity, quality, and tremendous value. Fourth-generation viticulturist Rafael Cañizares focuses on restoring forgotten vineyards, some nearly 90 years old, with indigenous varietals, such as Monastrell, Tempranillo, Merseguera, Macabeo, Verdejo and Moscatel. With sustainable farming and minimal intervention, he crafts extraordinary wines full of personality and true expression of the place.

Vineyard & Winemaking: The grapes come from five vineyards, one of which was planted in 1925. Four vineyards of Monastrell located in the Sierra de Salinas, Umbria and La Sima. The vineyard of Cabernet Sauvignon is in the Sierra de Salinas and was planted in 1981. Altitude 600-750 metres above sea level. Fossilised limy soils with an upper layer of limstones. Traditional dry-farmed viticulture. Aged 22 months in new French oak.
