Region: Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy
Varietal: 14 red and white grapes (indigenous & international)
Producer: For more than 160 years, the Alois Lageder family has been a pioneering force in Alto Adige, crafting wines that embody both mountain precision and Mediterranean grace. Today, under the stewardship of Alois Clemens Lageder, the estate continues to push boundaries through its commitment to biodynamics and environmental stewardship. The “Misto Mare” Bianco—literally “mixed sea”—is a modern expression of Lageder’s innovative spirit, drawing inspiration from the Adriatic coast while remaining deeply rooted in the alpine terroir of northern Italy. It reflects the estate’s vision of interconnectedness between land, climate, and culture—where balance and harmony are not marketing concepts but lived values.
Vineyard & Winemaking: “Misto Mare” is sourced from a mosaic of high-altitude vineyards scattered across Alto Adige, many of which are in the process of converting to full organic and biodynamic certification under Alois Lageder’s pioneering sustainability program. The wine is an unconventional field blend of over fourteen grape varieties—both white and red—co-fermented to capture a sense of place rather than varietal identity. Each component is vinified separately and then blended, with fermentation and aging conducted exclusively in stainless steel to preserve purity, freshness, and textural finesse. The result reflects Lageder’s belief that ecological balance and minimal intervention yield wines of striking vitality and precision.
Tasting Notes: Misto Mare opens with a vibrant bouquet of white peach, lemon blossom, and sea spray, layered with hints of almond and fresh herbs. On the palate, it’s supple yet lifted, with a saline edge that recalls ocean breezes and a lingering finish of stone fruit and citrus zest. Bright, balanced, and quietly complex, it’s a white that feels both invigorating and deeply grounded—an elegant nod to the marriage of land and sea that inspired its creation.
